Rice in Philippine Myths and Legends Essay
Rice in Philippine Myths and Legends Essay Philippine Myths, Legends, Epics History Essay Philippine Myths, Legends, Epics History Essay Legends and fantasies are not just essential stories; they contain exercises and morals that went on from period to time. These accounts may in like manner consolidate critical recorded data about the lifestyle of specific people or the entire race. The Philippine tales are the wellsprings of the various issues of nearby life. At first told and retold by the progenitors of long earlier, these accounts have spilled down to the present through the lips of narrators and have transformed into a key a part of the nationââ¬â¢s social heritage (Fullmer, 2013). Rice in Philippine Myths and Legends Philippine folklore and old stories fuse a social occasion of stories and odd notions about charmed creatures and substances. A few Filipinos, notwithstanding the reality of being strongly westernized, still believe in such issues. Philippine folklore and strange notions shift contingent upon the area. This is on the grounds that the country has various islands and they are controlled by assorted ethnic social affairs. On the other hand, certain resemblances exist among these social affairs, for instance, the foundation of rice (Acabado, 2009). Root of Rice There was a period, various years sooner, when rice was not known by any means. Around then, the forebears lived on such items as vegetables, wild creatures and winged animals, which they chased in the mountains or the timberlands. Working the soil was as yet dark. In like manner, poultry and pig was not yet a bit of their technique for living. Since people depended upon the sustenance the nature gave, and not what they themselves created or raised, their stay in one spot was consistently transitory. Right when there was nothing more to chase or accumulate in a specific spot, they would go to another area where there was a great deal of food. Consequently, they streamed beginning with one spot then onto the following (Juanillo 2011). In the start of the day, the men set off to the mountains or woods to chase, while the ladies and little children were caught up with angling and assembling nourishments developed from the beginning. Following all day work, each and every wild animal that had been killed in the pursuit, and all nourishments developed starting from the earliest stage had been amassed would be partitioned similarly among all the families, which kept up the parity (Juanillo 2011). At some point, a gathering of trackers went out to pursue a deer. In their longing to have a conventional prey, the men strolled all over until they went to the Cordillera Mountains. Having a long excursion, and feeling dead depleted, they decided to take a rest under a significant tree. It was approaching twelve and all of them were ravenous (Patriarca, 2015). While resting in the shade of the tree, they saw, not a long way from them, a gathering of people who didn't look equivalent to everyday citizens. The trackers comprehended that they were divine creatures and goddesses who lived in that partof the mountain. Simultaneously the men stood up and gave the divine beings due profound respect. The perfect creatures were upbeat of this sign. Thus, they welcomed the trackers to have a supper with them (Juanillo 2011). The men assisted with preparing the supper. They butchered the deer and a wild pig, and a while later set them over the hot coals. In a short time, a laborer of the perfect creatures got a couple of bamboos and set them over the fire. The bamboos contained minimal white pieces shaped like spots. After a short time, the cooked bits were set in saucer-formed banana leaves (Juanillo 2011). The table overloaded with stewed meat, cooked vegetables, and new regular items. Various bamboos were gotten and these contained what resembled impeccable water (Patriarca, 2015). The trackers before long found that the valuable substance was not water, yet rather, the wine of the bathalas (Fullmer, 2013). In any case, the men were reluctant to join the occasion as they saw the little white parts. We dont eat worms, the manager tracker said. The bathalas smiled. These white spot shaped bits are not worms, addressed one of the perfect creatures. They are cooked rice. They started from a unique kind of plant, which we ourselves create. Come and eat with us. After the god had talked, the searchers didn't avoid any more. They ate with the perfect creatures. They were fulfilled and happy, on the grounds that they had been reinforced just as considering the imperativeness: they felt in the wake of eating cooked rice. Their frail bodies became strong again (Fullmer, 2013). After the victory, the trackers offered thanks to the awesome creatures. Prior to leaving, every tracker got a sack of palay from divine beings. This is palay, explained one a greater amount of the awesome creatures. Pound the palay, winnow and clean it extraordinarily well. Wash the rice with water and spot the washed rice between the bits of the bamboo with enough water to be devoured by the rice. By then, put the bamboo over the fire until it is cooked. The god postponed for quite a while. By then he continued talking. The cleared out will get the chance to be strong and all of you will be satisfied in the wake of eating. Shield a segment of the palay for your seedbed. The perfect creatures urged the trackers to start planting in the midst of the stormy season. In the midst of the dry season, they could gather the palay. The divine beings at that point prompted the men to introduce the palay in their town and tell everybody the best way to till the earth. You will find headway, an d this will keep you from wandering from spot to spot(Fullmer, 2013). The trackers offered thanks to the celestial creatures once more. By then, they set off for their town. They followed the direction of divine beings. They showed their own family how to till the earth and plant rice. They additionally showed their related locals how to cook rice. Clearly, they introduced the eating of cooked rice to everyone. After various years, the demonstration of eating rice and the art of its planting must be broad. Various distinctive barangays before long grasped the training and ability. From that time forward, rice has transformed into a fundamental food of our family. In like manner, close by the working of the earth, our kinfolk have made sense of how to raise animals and to assemble unchanging residences (Fullmer, 2013). Rice Farming and Rituals In the long time past days, starvation was conspicuous in the Philistines. The unhinged people beseeched their goddess to save them. Moved by empathy, the goddess slid to the earth. The territory was gotten dry with drought, with only several in number weeds on the ground. The goddess revealed her chest and emptied milk into each forsaken ear of the weeds. At the point when her milk ran out and she saw that there were as yet empty ears, she mentioned that the sky gave her more channel. Then again, when she pressed her chest again, simply blood turned out. At the point when she was done, she at that point bent low over the plants and implored them to succeed and support her again (Haban, 2009). Among the World Heritage goals in the Philippines, the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras have such a successful region, to the point that makes them a champion among the most phenomenal spots in the country. Lying high in the Cordillera Mountain, their setting can't be copied anyplace in the bog tropical scene or even anyplace on the planet. Weeks passed and the weeds created and ended up being loaded with grain. Right when everybody gathered the stalks and beat them open, a couple of grains were as white as the goddess milk while some were as red as her blood. Everyone cooked the grains and found them supporting. Cheering, for at last they have food, the individuals offered appreciation to the goddess as they re-planted and gathered this weed, which is what is by and by known as rice (Russel, 1920). Origination fantasies propose this was basically found through understanding to oversee sustenance sources, especially considering fiascoes, for instance, drought and maladies and cholera. The general principle and system of terracing was displayed in custom legends, anyway the procedures were made through time and by the association of the ideal intervention of Ifugao begetters. In their ancestor induced dreams a couple of aptitudes, have been made by the Ifugaos for their rice terracing custom. A couple of functions have been created by the Ifugaos that revere their forerunners in their rice terracing show. It is believed that the custom legends introduced in rice services outline its foundation (Acabado, 2009). Analysts accept, slants have been terraced and planted with rice as far back as 2,000 years. Mountains terraced into paddies that despite everything make due in moving states of assurances are spread over region run (7 percent of the total zone areas of the Philippine archipelago) that is in the northern Luzon locales of Kalinga-Apayao, Abra, Benguet and Ifugao. The doubtful site is found at statures varying from 700 to 1,500 meters above sea level, where patios are cut into mountain slants with structures that climb steeply (Madigan, 1964). Nearness in the Cordillera joins man with nature, and the unrivaled point of view shows how man has shaped the scene to allow him create rice. The sheer excellence of the porches gives uniqueness and quality. Other than wind and blending leaves, there is moreover the steady stable of water gushing downhill on the conduits that flood the porches. There is nobleness in the public eye and condition conveyed by the ever-enduring quietness of the yards. Most Filipinos see the yards as their most vital national picture (Russel, 1920). The beginning stages and age of the Ifugao rice porches in the Philippine Cordillera continue impelling interest and imaginative capacity in educational and unmistakable common contentions. Buddhism in China Essay examples - 815 Words
Buddhism in China Between the third and ninth centuries C.E. China underwent a number of changes in its cultural makeup. Foremost amongst them was the adoption of Buddhist religious practices. I must stress that this was not a formal or universal change in religion but a slow integration of a system that permitted adaptation of its own form to promote acceptance as long as the fundamental theories and practices remained the same, unlike most religions. Buddhism worked its way into the court and decision makers of the Chinese state and that was the major sticking point for the religion in China. For Buddhism to be accepted the Emperor would have to condone it and at least offer his acceptance of it. Without imperialâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The emperor of China was, throughout the course of Buddhismââ¬â¢s introduction to China, reluctant to accept it as an officially sanctioned religion as the tenants of the religion have the ability to be taken as believing in the reducing of the power of the head of state to a subservient position to the religion. This was a major problem as the pre-existing religion, Confucism, had as one of its tenants strict loyalty to the emperor. This loyalty aspect of Confucism granted the emperor a divine claim of authorization for his power and use of it. The main sticking point that Buddhism had to get past to be openly accepted in China was the emperor. He controlled the flow of information from outside sources into the areas where people would be willing to accept new thoughts and beliefs. The court officials were similar in position towards Buddhism as the emperor was due to the close relationship between his power and theirs. However, as the people whom implement the policies of the emperor they are also very important to the spread of the religion. In their capacity they have the ability to hinder the spread and to wrongfully use their power to arrest and cripple the religion. Sociological Dimension of Depression Free Essay Example, 3000 words
This research tells that the concept of happiness offers an interesting perspective on depression. In fact, since it is so individualistic, it provides possible clues as to why some people are depressed and others or not. Alternatively, it could also explain why some people are more likely to become depressed than others. Happiness is relative, but it is also extremely personal. One might be happy about something while another is displeased with it; it is something that cannot be controlled. Moreover, research has shown that people are different in their way of thinking. As a result, they cannot perceive the same things, in the same way. However, the biggest observation has to be that clinically depressed people cannot claim to be happy. In essence, clinical depression and happiness do not mix. Although depressed individuals can experience periods of happiness once in a while, they are not happy, in general. They can drift in and out of happy states, but the prevailing condition is that of depression. Tobacco may provide a different relief or prevention for some diseases in certain individuals. The most recognized health benefit of smoking is its ability to seemingly improve symptoms of mental illness, including anxiety and schizophrenia. People with these mental illnesses use smoking as a self-medicating kind of method. Several academic sources confirm that the risk of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease and Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease is unexpectedly superior in non-smokers than in smokers. The University of Melbourne established that tobacco itself is a strong appetite suppressant and many were using it to self-treat compulsive overeating disorders and obesity.â⬠Cigarette smoking has also been linked to a decrease in risk of certain inflammatory disorders, since nicotine itself appears to be an anti-inflammatory agentâ⬠(Russo, 2011, p.1). Ellen Moore - Living and Working in Korea free essay sample
Case Memo for Living and Working in Korea Problem Statement After Ellen been in Korea for a certain time, she found out that the Korean consultants were less experienced than expected. Besides that, tensions arose between her and the co-manager Jack, regarding who was given directions to the team and they escalated when the project fell behind schedule. At the same time, the Korean Mr. Song is blaming Ellen should be accountable for all problems, and Andrew needs to decide how to proceed so that the project gets completed. Analysis: Commitment Actually, the Korean consultants didnââ¬â¢t show too much commitment in the case. They used to work on control-narrowly defined jobs, implement the order and they never use to raise the idea of optimizing the work. They did their job follow the bossââ¬â¢s expectation in order to not getting fired, no any creative suggestion at all. Managing Interpersonal Conflict It seems two conflict parties have been established in the company, one is Korean, another is American. We will write a custom essay sample on Ellen Moore Living and Working in Korea or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Because Korean management clear mentioned they accepted to work with a qualified woman, however in the end, Ellen became a scapegoat, all of failure was imputed to her, and it was unfair for Ellen. Actually, for Korean management didnââ¬â¢t make a deep analysis to find the essential of the issue. Even though, Andrew will agree to replace Ellen, nobody knows whether it can solve all of problem at all. Disordered reporting line The reporting line is the most disordered what I have saw before. Overlap management: one staff have several superiors, for them it will be very difficult to deal when the superiors have different opinions. Skip grade reporting, one staff should report to someone and his or her superior at the same time, it will also be confused for staff who is the decision maker. The result might be everybody come the highest level people in the reporting line, however rest people will definitely unhappy about it. Recommendation Andrew has to meet with Korean top management to clarify the essential of the issue, make sure everybody has same understanding for current situation. Andrew should insist on Ellen is a qualified women which was proofed by Bahrain Project, and this project as well, e. g. good relationship with the consultants during Jackââ¬â¢s absence period. The problem is the communication between Jack and Ellen. The suggestion will be Jack and Ellen will have to meet once a week to talk about problems that arose. Every Friday they need to spend one or two hours on talking about what went right or wrong the past week. Everything what is said in this meeting will never be communicated to the other employees who work on the project. Nobody can get offended or compromised. Both of them will have to report the result to Andrew, Mr. Park and Mr. Song with other project information, including events, progress, problems, changes and difficulties. Due to the one month delay, all participants of the project need to meet in one big meeting to set targets, how to catch up the schedule in order to complete the project on time. Everybody at the meeting needs to know how serious the situation is and that everybody has to work harder to recover the lost time. The management of the company can implement awards to give incentives for people who would like to benefit from the extra work. Revised and optimized the reporting structure, the purpose is to have a clear reporting structure to make a effective communication, no overlap management and skip a grade reporting. All staff can easily take the order and implementation. To split current consultants to two teams and lead by Jack and Ellen respectively might be a good idea. It can let them compete each others, and performance will be comparable, it will be easily to evaluate who is doing better job.
